Instant coffee is made from roasted coffee beans that are ground, put through a water process and then placed to a drying stage. There are various methods used for drying. The drying process is important. Two processes are used: freeze and spray drying.

Instant coffee comes in powder or granulated form. It is easy to prepare, but is not considered as good as regular ground coffee. Generally, low quality coffee beans are used to make instant coffee. It is also available in a decaffeinated form.
