A French Press produces a rich Cup of Coffee
The French press is a glass pot with a fitted lid. Inside on the bottom of the lid is a plunger
made of mesh. The ground coffee is put in the glass pot. Hot water (not quite boiling) is added and the
lid is placed on top. Let the coffee steep for a few minutes. Then press the plunger down to push the
grounds to the bottom of the pot.
Many coffee drinkers believe that this type of coffee maker produces a richer coffee than the drip method. Use a
coarsely ground coffee, otherwise you will get too much ground in your coffee.
Steps to make coffee:
1. Boil as many cups of water as desired.
2. Use coarse ground or grind coffee beans. If you grind coffee beans, it is best to use a burr grinder.
3. Use two rounded tablespoons of ground for 6-8 oz. of water.
4. Add hot water slowly.
5. Use a long teaspoon to stir the coffee ground.
6. Put the plunger over the press for about 2-3 minutes for a small pot or 4 minutes for a larger pot.
7. Push the plunger down slowly and straight.
8. Pour the coffee into a cup and enjoy the coffee.
Bodum produces several models in sizes for 4, 8 and 12 cups. Prices are about $25-55.
The Frieling stainless steel thermal press costs about $45-50.
