Food Blender Buying Guide

To choose the right food blender will depend on the food you want to prepare and your budget.

A general use blender costs about $40-60. It should have a sturdy construction and a strong motor. If you intend to crush ice, you need a powerful motor and a glass or stainless steel carafe. Plastic carafes are less expensive and are lightweight. Glass containers are more stable and are easier to clean. A wide top opening makes loading food and cleaning easier.

Blender speeds range from 1 to over 20 speeds. Most common are 3-18 speeds. In most cases 3 speeds are sufficient.

Other features to consider are controls. Most common are push buttons and touch pad controls. Touch pads are the easiest to clean and they also have programmed settings.

Popular brands are Oster, Hamilton Beach, Braun, Cuisinart, Black & Decker, Krups and Waring.
