Choose a sturdy
Espresso Machine

Espresso is an Italian name for a special type of coffee. An espresso machine is used to prepare the coffee beverage espresso. Coffee beans used for espresso are roasted until they are dark and have an oily appearance. Then the beans are ground with a very fine setting.

The machine uses pressure to push hot water through the ground coffee. The output is thicker than regular coffee and is served in smaller cups. The cups are the size of a shot glass.

Espresso can be mixed to make drinks like cafe latte, cappuccino and cafe mocha.

Price range for these machines is about $200 to over $2000. Krups entry level machine costs about $50 and might be a good choice for beginners. Machines in the price range of $200-500 will produce consistently good quality espresso.

Look for the following features:

  • Machines that use pumps seem to be better. Steam driven models are less expensive, but usually have difficulty keeping the correct water temperature and water pressure. Automatic machines are too expensive for most homes.
  • Components should be durable. The housing should be metal or strong plastic.
  • It is nice to have a removable drip tray and a surface that will keep cups warm.

To make espresso at home, you need to have enough space. The process is not complicated, but it involves some work. Be sure to review several models and costs involved.
