Best Espresso Machines
are Pump driven Machines

The best espresso machines should have the following features:

  • The machines should have durable components. The housing should be metal or sturdy plastic.
  • Brass filter holders (portafilters) stay hot better than aluminum portafilters.
  • Higher priced machines have built in burr grinders. These grinders should be able to grind beans quickly from coarse to fine.
  • Pump driven machines are better than machines that use steam. Machines that use the pump system can better maintain the temperature and better generate the high pressure needed for brewing.
The Krups XP4050 is a programmable pump machine that can make quality espresso, cappuccino and latte. The heating element provides the right temperature and pressure for perfect espresso. The housing is stainless steel. Price is about $400.

The Capresso Pro is a pump espresso model with a stainless steel housing. It has a portafilter and a milk container that attaches to the machine. It produces unlimited frothed milk. Price is about $250.

The Delonghi Magnifica Automatic has a built in burr grinder that allows fineness settings for espresso or coffee. Just push a button and the machine grinds the beans for fresh espresso or coffee. A special chamber mixes steam and milk to make a creamy froth for cappuccino or latte. Price is about $700-900.
